Community Mentor Opportunities

As a community mentor, we ask for a commitment of one year. Traditionally, our community mentors spend three hours each week with either a young man or young woman incarcerated or recently released from one of the state's juvenile correctional facilities.

The AIM program is in operation within several of Indiana's juvenile correctional facilities. Our mentors are given flexibility in deciding their weekly schedule, assigned youth and facility. Some mentors choose to mentor youths already released from incarceration.

Throughout the year long commitment, mentors receive training and support from AIM staff.

Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years old

Have excellent communication skills–especially in the area of listening

Recognize and accept the diversity of others

Demonstrate the ability to interact with youth between the ages of 12-19

Have a good sense of humor and a great deal of patience.
