Mission
statement
To support Indiana’s
incarcerated youth in making the transition from corrections to
community through healthy relationships with adult mentors.
AIM is a diverse team of
dedicated AmeriCorps members and adult volunteers. As mentors,
we provide reentry support to incarcerated youths returning to
communities throughout Indiana. We provide effective role
models that target unique needs of these youths, inspiring
purpose, motivation and direction for as long as the youths are
receptive to our help.
With a focus on life skills, we
steer the youths toward success by engaging community resources
and service providers. We inspire the youths to pursue
successful and productive futures where they reach their
potential, through self-development and the utilization of
community resources.
Philosophy
·
We
know the youths are important individuals.
·
We
will provide support to them regardless of what they
have done in the past.
·
We
want to help them discover and develop their positive
attributes.
·
We
want to help them learn from the mistakes they have made
in the past.
·
We
want them to know we accept them unconditionally.
·
We are
members of a team; we will provide support to our other
team members; will look to each other for support as
well.
·
We
will follow through on the commitments we make to our
team members and the youth we serve.
·
Our
work is only beginning when these youth are released to
the community.
·
We
will strive to educate members of the community about
the importance of our work and the needs of the youth we
serve.
·
We
will strive to break down the stereotypes that the
community has of the youth we serve.
